UN peacekeepers ‘impotent’ as Israel-Hezbollah conflict escalates: Analysis

Israel’s air strike on the southern suburbs of Beirut has killed at least six people. The Israeli army says it was an attempt to kill a senior Hezbollah commander.
This comes after hundreds of strikes on Monday killed more than 500 people in Lebanon.

Raymond Murphy is a professor at the University of Galway’s Irish Centre for Human Rights and served as a UN Peace keeper with UNIFIL in Lebanon. He says the situation in Lebanon is “extremely dangerous” and that Israel has attacked to not only defeat Hezbollah but provoke it to respond with increasing force.
